KoLabs’ Winter Workshop, led by Zack, Company Ko-Director

Five Sundays, 12 noon – 3 pm
November 22, 29 & December 6, 13, 20

An intro to KoLabs’ methodology, Making Our Work combines three elements:
1) SKILL WORK: technical training aimed at extending performers’ range of expressivity;
2) PROCESS WORK: creating original material using techniques ranging from improvisation to writing and/or research;
3) PRODUCT WORK: assembling a short piece through selection, structuring and refining material developed by workshop participants
Together we will work out via dynamic physical work and vocal exploration. Then, using text, music and movement and working with the themes of "quarreling" and "courtship", we will apply our technical skills to exercises and games designed to generate performance material. Creative work will range from solo assignments to small and large group activities; take-home work will include reading and writing assignments. Goals of the workshop include learning how to build off of each other’s contributions, moving from experimenting to decision-making, and rehearsing original material within an ensemble context. Participants will create short presentations, learn previously-created material, and use re/combination techniques under directorial guidance to create a short performance piece that will be presented to an invited audience.

Making Our Work is ideal for artists looking to move beyond their original anchor discipline, expand into performance and take original work to the next level by creating with others.
